Understanding injury. Supporting recovery.

An injury affects more than the place that hurts.

A sprained ankle changes the way you walk. Shoulder pain may alter how you move your neck. Even after damaged tissues have healed, the body can continue protecting an area long after that protection is needed.

Recovery is often about more than easing pain. It's about understanding why an injury has occurred, what's preventing it from settling, and helping your body regain confidence in movement.

Every treatment begins by understanding the whole picture—not just where it hurts, but how the injury happened, what's keeping it going, and how it's affecting your everyday life. From there, treatment is tailored to your body and your goals.

ACC-registered provider: If your injury is covered by ACC, you don't need a GP referral to see me. Simply bring your ACC45 number from your GP, physiotherapist, chiropractor or osteopath—if you're unsure how the process works—I'm happy to help.

Looking at the Whole Picture

No single way of understanding the body has all the answers.

Traditional East Asian medicine offers one perspective, looking at the relationships between different parts of the body and how they influence one another. My ongoing study of anatomy and sports medicine has added another, deepening the way I think about movement, tissue healing and injury mechanisms.

I don't see these as competing ideas. Together they help me ask better questions.

Why has this injury occurred? What's preventing it from settling? How is the rest of the body adapting? And what does this particular person need in order to recover?

Rather than simply focusing on where it hurts, treatment aims to understand the injury in the context of your whole body and your life.

Alongside traditional East Asian medicine, my ongoing study of anatomy and sports medicine has influenced the way I think about injury. It helps me understand not only where pain is felt, but what may be contributing to it and what's preventing recovery.

Gentle Treatment, Tailored to You

Japanese acupuncture has strongly influenced the way I practise. It emphasises careful observation, gentle palpation and responding to how each person's body presents on the day.

Depending on your needs, treatment may include acupuncture, moxibustion, electro-acupuncture, cupping or Gua Sha, together with practical advice to support your recovery between appointments.

The aim is always to use the least treatment necessary to create meaningful change.

Injuries I Commonly See

People come to see me with a wide range of injuries and pain conditions, including back and neck pain, shoulder, hip and knee injuries, sciatica, sprains and strains, sports injuries, tendon pain, repetitive strain injuries, headaches and migraine, jaw pain (TMJ), and persistent musculoskeletal conditions such as arthritis.

If you're unsure whether acupuncture may be appropriate for your injury, I'm always happy to discuss it.

Traditional Practice, Informed by Modern Evidence

Acupuncture has been used to support recovery from pain and injury for centuries, and modern research continues to strengthen our understanding of where it can help.

Large clinical studies have shown acupuncture to be effective for many musculoskeletal conditions, particularly persistent pain, with benefits that often continue beyond the course of treatment. This growing body of evidence has led to acupuncture being included in a number of international clinical guidelines for chronic pain.

For me, evidence is one part of good practice. It sits alongside careful assessment, clinical experience and understanding the individual person in front of me.
