Pregnancy is a time of enormous change

Pregnancy brings the biggest hormonal shift in a woman's body since puberty, and it's natural for your body to need extra support along the way.

Pregnancy asks a great deal of your body. While many discomforts are common, that doesn't mean you simply have to put up with them.

First Trimester

Morning sickness

Nausea and vomiting are among the most common challenges of early pregnancy. Acupuncture is a well-known treatment and many women find it helps reduce both the severity and frequency of symptoms. Treatment is always tailored to the individual, recognising that no two pregnancies are the same.

Fatigue

Tiredness is common in early pregnancy as your body adjusts to significant hormonal changes. Acupuncture may help support energy levels and encourage more restful sleep.

Anxiety

It's natural to feel anxious as you adjust to the changes of early pregnancy. Acupuncture may help support a calmer nervous system alongside your existing care.

Working alongside your maternity team: Acupuncture works alongside the care you already receive from your midwife, GP, obstetrician or physiotherapist. The aim is to complement your existing care, helping support comfort and wellbeing throughout pregnancy.

Support Throughout Pregnancy

As your baby grows, changing posture and hormones can place extra demands on your body. Treatment may help with:

  • Back pain
  • Pelvic girdle pain
  • Rib pain
  • Sciatica
  • Heartburn
  • Constipation
  • Haemorrhoids
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Swelling

Acupuncture is considered safe during pregnancy when provided by a suitably trained practitioner, and treatments are always adapted to your stage of pregnancy and your individual needs.

Research supports acupuncture as a safe and effective option for many of the common discomforts of pregnancy, and it's increasingly integrated alongside conventional maternity care.

Preparing for Birth

Pre-birth acupuncture

From around 36 weeks, many women choose weekly acupuncture as part of preparing for labour — supporting relaxation, easing anxiety, and helping the body prepare for birth.

Every pregnancy is different. Treatment is never based on a fixed protocol, but on what your body needs at that stage of pregnancy.

Breech babies

Moxibustion — the gentle warmth of a smouldering herbal stick over a specific acupuncture point — is one of the best-known ways acupuncture can support turning a breech baby, generally most effective between 34 and 35 weeks' gestation.

When Baby is Taking Their Time

Post-dates

If your pregnancy continues beyond your due date, acupuncture may help support your body's natural preparation for labour, taking into account your baby's position and how you're feeling physically and emotionally.

Supporting you through every stage

Whether you're eight weeks pregnant and struggling with morning sickness, preparing for birth, or simply looking for relief from the physical demands of pregnancy, treatment is always tailored to you and your baby.

Pregnancy is a time of enormous change. You don't have to navigate it feeling uncomfortable or unsupported.
